About the Event

As part of Science Week, Cork Nature Network is delighted to present an online talk on the 17th of November 2022 at 7 pm on choughs in Ireland. This event will take place on Zoom.

Choughs are members of the crow (Corvid) family residing along the rocky coasts of Ireland’s south and west, but their numbers are in serious decline. Our speaker Sam Bayley will talk about the Cork Chough Colour Ringing Project and the movements, nest locations and distribution of one of our most enigmatic crow species. He’ll also tell us about citizen science initiatives offering opportunities for people to add to the research.

About our speaker:

Sam Bayley has spent most of his life working as a Ranger in England for National Trust and developing skills as a field naturalist especially with dragonflies, moths and birds.  He moved to Ireland to take the position of warden at Cape Clear Bird Observatory in 2016 and 2017.  He also two years as a Research Assistant in the Ornithology department at UCC. He is currently working for National Parks and Wildlife Service as a Conservation Ranger at Killarney National Park.

Join us to learn more about these fascinating birds.
