Spectroscopy   in

a Suitcase

RSC's Spectroscopy in a Suitcase is an outreach activity which gives school students the chance to learn about spectroscopy through hands-on experience. As well as covering the principles of spectroscopic techniques, the activities use real-life contexts to demonstrate the applications of the techniques. This workshop is available from UCC and CIT funded by Science Foundation Ireland and the Royal Society of Chemistry

StarDome 

From CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory the StarDome brings the universe into your own school hall. Discover the night sky in this portable planetarium which will visit your school for the full day, accommodating up to 25 students for each 30 min show.   Please note the BCO Stardome inflates to a size of 6m x 6m and requires a height of 3.5m. 

Smart Futures in Bio-Pharma-Chem

Tour a mimic manufacturing environment at the Biopharma Facility in Carrigaline and engage directly with people who have pursued science or engineering based qualifications leading to a career in the biopharmaceutical sector. STEM Southwest 

Industry Showcase

STEM South West 2019 is an innovative industry-sponsored interactive STEM exhibition showcasing STEM Careers and Activities in the South West region. This free event, a collaboration between industry and academia, is specifically aimed at providing post primary students and their supporters (parents, teachers, guidance counsellors), as well as career changers and job seekers, with the opportunity to explore the benefits a STEM career can offer for their future. 

Photonics Explorer and Career Talk 

APC Microbiome Institute 

Explore the world of Photonics with IPIC and discover key concepts about light and how it can be used to improve communication. This session will be followed by a career talk. 

A visit from the APC Microbiome Institute to meet Transition Year Students to talk about research and what it’s like to be a scientist in the field of microbiome science.

Photogrammetry

Experiment with 3D-scanning in the Crawford Art Gallery. Help capture digital models of the historic Canova Casts and learn techniques of photogrammetry with Scan the World founder and project manager Jonathan Beck. Photogrammetry is a democratic method of recording and measuring three-dimensional objects with the aid of your smartphone!
